It's been way too long since I've been able to take some time and do some turning. To celebrate, I turned two new (to me) styles in woods I haven't used before. Comments are welcome.

The first is Jatoba (Brazilian cherry) with a canarywood band:

These three are Cumaru (tropical rainforest) Polaris:

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. The Jatoba was a bit of a bear. The grain was at almost 90 degrees to the surface in the centre. A slight catch with the chisel...and, voila!, a new "feature" band!! [:I]

The gents (Jatoba) is very very nice. I really like your presentation and the photgraph, though a little dark, works for me. A very nice piece of work. Thanks for sharing.

I just noticed that the Polaris pens/pencil don't show the finish very well. They are actually just as shiny as the Jatoba. I tried to eliminate as many reflections as possible without using a light box...and apparently succeeded!! [:p]

Very good looking pens. I like the Jatoba, that could be due to us making the crib, changing table and bassinet out of it. Very hard wood, but looks great.
