Has anyone here ever had any experience with Iyogi?
Long story very short..Needed my password for my wireless so Dee could reg. her new Ebook. Dee Called Netgear to get it and Iyogi is their contact and said they would get the password for her but she being computer dumb, when they said that they needed control of my computer to retrieve the password in doing so they said my computer was so slow it needed optimizing and while she had control she could do it for $39.95 well short version they gave the password and it would not work so they changed it and I've been on the phone with them for over 9 hours trying to get back on the wireless net and wireless printer. They totally screwed up my wireless settings. I bypassed the router and hooked my modem direct and reset my internet and am now able to get on the net but not wireless of course. They were to call me with another tech today at 8:AM still waiting...AVOID THESE PEOPLE

Now you have me worried. I'm just getting ready to attempt to install my own wireless network. Been doing lots of reading and investigating. Netgear was one of the routers on my list, along with Linksys. I think you just resolved that selection:smile:. Good luck with recoverying your network, man those computer problems can be messy:frown:.

The simplest thing to do is google for the owners manual for your router. This will give you the default user name and password. For example, linksys routers defaults are admin, admin.

Then you hold in the reset button on the router for 20 seconds. This will reset the router to accept the default password and user name. Then you can reset anything you need to reset.

If you need my help, feel free to call.

Thanks for the heads up!

Steeler Fan;

Either Netgear or Linksys work the same way as far as setting the password is concerned. When you set up your network, you choose your password. I have a tendency to forget or lose my passwords after I set them up. Write it down or, the best advise I have (presuming Windows) is to create a text file in the directory fo the program files for your router that contains the password, and name the file network_password.txt or something similar.

The problem Roy ran into, was support personnel who should have immediately told the user that the password is something they do not know, that would have been created when the person set the network up. I personally have a lot of doubt that they could see the password even when they had control of the host computer that was used to set up the network. This was unscrupulous behaviour on the part of the support organization, apparently 'Iyogi'.

The company I work for has the ability to 'take control' of my computer when I have issues with it. However, any time the support person needs to move into a password protected area, I need to type the password in because they cannot see it.

Roy:
Once you get the router reset, write the user name and password on label and attach it to the bottom of the router. Anyone who can physically touch the router can Just simply reset it. So this is not really a security threat.

Andy and Tony,

Thanks for the hints and ideas, you guys are very helpful.

Roy,
I appologize for the threadjack, wasn't my intention to steal your topic. I hope you get your network back in order.

Netgear is very easy to set-up. Disconnect everything, uninstall the software and start over from the beginning. I set mine up twice in about 20 minutes.

Then..... everyone I know wanted a router hooked up.

James I agree but Iyogi had changed so many settings it became next to impossible. We tried that, so after 2 1/2 days of being on the phone with them, netgear corp. office in Ca. and my brother printer all on a conference call today from 11 this morning till 2:30 and then again from 3:10 till 5:15 we finally got all solved and I'm back in business with my desk top and two laptops and printer.....I hope.
Had not realized how much I missed a computer.
