Had quite a storm here last Thursday in mid-Michigan. Several tornadoes touched down really close by. No damage to us but quite a bit too close for comfort. The power went out Thursday about 9ish during the storm. We've got a generator for the essentials - but the shop is not considered "essential" o_O. Just came on last night.
HOORAY! (but 5 days without power is not a picnic).
Back in the shop (my wife is sooo grateful).

March, 1993, got hit with a blizzard dumping about 21 inches of snow. Just a strip east to west running from Dalton, GA north to Athens, TN. College students spent spring break in the area. TV station made the mistake of interviewing a lady from Canada. Rural areas were without power for 10 days. We were out of power for about 14 hours. Utilities had to wait until high winds died down to repair lines. So far, never needed a generator.
Ted, when the power came on, did your wife escort you to the shop or point you in that direction?

Sounds like you need another Genny to me. Wife mite be agreeable at this time but do it quick before her memory fades.

Longest I've been without power was 6 days in 80 degree weather, 5500 watt Genny kept the freezers and fridge cold while my little WEN Genny was used for non-essentials.

Who decides what's essential?
It is up to the individual, I guess. Depending on the size of the generator, I would want the freezer, refrigerators, and ceiling fans to operate in the summer so the heat pump will be turned off...unless I have a huge generator. Winter: we have a gas heater in the den at the bottom of the stairs so keeping warm is not a problem.

Funny, I first read your post very differently. Here in Rochester, NY a Genny is a Genessee Beer. One of those Gennys would probably help too.

Here's hoping all the folks in Florida who've been hit so badly recover quickly and no one loses a friend !

At least there's rescue services available to help . Prayers are with you all

We were lucky when we bought our house last year. Already had a 22kw generac. Tied my new shop into the house so no problems there either. We also had a close tornado early this year. Made a u-turn around the house. Took a couple window screens and a gutter down besides a few trees behind us. We put in a storm shelter after that one. Lol
