As some may remember my son, 10, wants to learn to weld. After giving it some thought and waiting for mom and little brother to go out of town, I decided to start him with the plasma cutter to get him use to the sparks, and the equipment. He did well. Some of the little booger's cuts were better than mine. He did catch a BB through the sock getting to close while watching me. Learned his lesson. After a few practice cuts I let him help with some cuts on a project I am working on. He will weld on this project too. We had to work on the ground because my benches are too high for him.

That first pic shows how badly I need to clean the shop out.

Yep I'm a proud dad.

Yep. She called just after Nate decided all the welding stuff was way too hot to wear anymore. He ratted me out with a huge smile on his face.

And proud you should be! Struck my first arc with a stick welder at age 11. Still today, even with MIG and TIG units in the shop, I still love to grab a stick and burn some metal.

Congrats on the new welder in the family. I know that he will enjoy it!

I started welding at a about that age also. It was fun and creative. Still do it on occasion.
