Last night I was working on a deer call and the tail stock retaining clip bent. I had the tail stock bolt push out the back of the housing. I bought the lathe on Oct. 6, that is not the way that you want to break one in. It is a Jet 1236 and I took it apart fixed the clip then promply broke it again. Anybody have any ideas for a cure? I will call Rockler and Jet both today. Any help would be great. Thanks Russell

Russell; Bummer dude :frown:

I took a look at the manual... The item 48-1 circlet ("C" "E") clip isn't holding? My Jet 1014 has a very similar tail stock.

I was surprised at the PDF manual. Looks like they just scanned images of a paper document. Much easier to export a PDF file from any Word Processor!:glasses-nerdy:

I'm sure Jet will make it right. They value their brand name.

Definitely call them. I have been on both sides of this type of conversation. When you call them, be polite, and ask them to fix it. There may be a defect in a particular batch of lathes that they know of. If not your call will put them on the track.

After a quick call to Rockler and then to Jet the part is on the way. They even sent it priority mail!! Should see it by Monday at the latest. At least I still have my 1014 to turn with till it gets here. I will say I am impressed with the service they showed me. Just a few questions and that was all, once I got the right person.

I have dealt with Jet a time or two (WMH to be more accurate) They have always taken very good care of me.

If the factory E clip doesn't fix it, or if you get in a hurry, you can buy E clips at the hardware store for about a dime each! I broke mine when i had a 1236, and instead of bothering WMH with it, i just went out and bought one. The replacement never did break while i owned the lathe.

Call JET first... they'll send you a new tailstock carriage bolt, with the tailstock quill too..... I used to drill peppermills on my 1014 and used the "E" clamp to mill away about an inch of the carriage bolt (Not the right name, only thing I can think of to call it right now)... matter of fact, I did it twice and they sent new bolts both times.

Thanks for the advise. I took the tail stock bolt out and it had a notch in it and the E clip slips through it when pressure is applied. They are sending a new one out, with the E clip. All I was drilling was a 5/8" hole with a new bit. Do you think it was too much pressure? Thanks again for all the comments. Russell
