I turned my first madrepearlato blank. it tends to have a very clear demarcation where you get the pearlescent effect and where you do not. Take a look at the turquoise pen. I'm wondering if the blank was cut the wrong way. If you look at the short end, you can see the pearlescent effect on the short end of the blank. I think that face should have been the long side.
For comparison, I've included a Kirk note pearl (he real). That one has the pearlescent effect on the long side and turns a much nicer final pen where the pearlescent effect is on all sides of the pen.

anyone else experience this? Any thoughts on how I can get the pearlescent effect on all sides of the madrepearlato?

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. I've found that it's almost impossible to tell what an acrylic blank is going to look like until you turn and polish it.

Doesn't even look like the same blank.
