Is there ANYTHING better than warm bread, fresh from the oven?

I am SO bad! My two loaves of bread (pumpernickel and cinnamon raisin) came out of the oven just before lunch time. I folded like a Swiss army knife! I cut off ALL FOUR heels, (nice and thick!) slathered them with real butter, poured a couple of glasses of eggnog and called it lunch! We each got one from each loaf. Heaven.

Not fair, we should at least be able to smell !!!!!

Got me thinking, maybe tomorrow I make some sticky buns:biggrin::biggrin::smile:

That is bad, just thinking about causes my Doctor heart burn,, not me her. We only can get Egg Nog after Halloween, do you make your own? My mom used to make Swedish Rye bread that and real butter with some coffee was lunch. My wife doesn't bake and so we go with out. She didn't use a recipe. I think my Sister still has the box with the recipe's in it will have to check with her.

I make it with eggbeaters instead of raw eggs. (my son is a microbiologist...I don't eat raw eggs!) We are low carb, so I make it with almond milk and splenda, but you can make it with whole milk and sugar. My low carb bread recipe is on my website.

Eggnog
1 pint egg beaters, or egg whites
1 pint almond milk or whole milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
Sweetener to taste, either splenda or sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla exract
pinch of nutmeg floated on each glass

Mix all ingredients and enjoy. If you really want to make it decadent, add a quarter cup of DaVinci butter rum flavored syrup, or a tot of rum.

Didn't want to reply on this thread as I figured I couldn't eat/drink it anyway... THANKS for the recipe - there's still hope! I use egg whites... Gotta try to stay alive to irritate folks...

But fresh bread... Man, ur killing me... ENJOY!

Mark (still hungry).

We had a fellow who used to make the best bread in the area. As kids he would tease us with the end cuts. We would sit out his kitchen window just to smell it while baking. Sadly he never passed the art onto his kids. He told us one summer if we could get the loaf off the window sil we could have it. We just didn't have enough lift in our jumps to get them. Until we finally made a human pyramid to clean him out. The look on his face was priceless as he got us out another pound of butter to join us.

Fresh homemade bread is hard to beat! Enjoy!

All this talk as my house is loaded with the aroma of fresh banana nut bread! I made the mistake of going grocery shopping after working all night, and they were cleaning out the banana bin. I ended up with about 20# of bananas for $3.00 and the thought that my wife could either wake up really happy or really mad! Luckily, she's been craving banana but bread also :)

Brings back a great memory of my brother and I, sitting on our dads knee sharing Pumpernickel bread and, Limberger cheese. MMMMM!

My dad taught me to eat Limburger cheese by taking some on my finger and smearing it under my nose! In a few seconds, you couldn't smell it any more, and it tasted great!

Mark, if you use egg whites, add 4 drops of yellow food coloring....makes it look like "real" eggnog LOL.

The warm bread makes me hungry just thinking about it. Never did care much for eggnog though, even with rum. I will pass your recipe along to my wife, she loves eggnog and we can only buy it around here at Christmas. She does still make bread and I am usually right there waiting when it comes out of the oven.

Fresh bread is one of God's gifts to mankind that we fail to apprediate enough.....The only thing I can think of that would tempt me more is my late sister's(in-law) cherry pie. I seriously doubt that anyone in the world could make better pie crust than Peetsie I dread the thought that I'll never get to taste it again.

Sharon if you like the ends you should cut them from the sides. Then they are at least twice as long each. ;) :) :)

My first breadmaker was a DAK/Welbuilt dome top (think R2D2) that made a big cylindrical loaf. I used to cut off three sides to make the loaf shaped like a regular loaf for slicing, plus the top and bottom, then slice it for sandwiches. That gave FIVE ends! (not many slices, though, but who cares.)
