Hello all, i am trying to find an extra chuck to avoid some jaw-changing all the time. I found a nice ebay add (please don't place a bid) about a teknatool supernova chuck and i wanted to know if its the same chuck as the nova that is mentioned frequently here. I have chuck jaws and bowl plate etc.for a record power chuck and i believe that they fit. Sorry if it sounds silly the seller is a grumpy guy, cheers.

P.S. of course you can bid if interested

Might check out the Teknatool Web site. Most Nova jaw sets fit most chuck models produced by Teknatool but I remember seeing some info on there site saying something about older chicks not excepting this or that. I know I'm being vauge but I was looking at the G3 pro and not the Super Nova. I do remember that the bigger Super Nova jaws don't fit the G3 and figured out there is a G3 lite chuck as well.

I concur with the comments already provided, I suggest you check not only with Teknatool but also look at the information available at Teknatool International as they have a lot of the answers to common questions about NOVA products and a Community Forum.

For example they have a guide for identifying Nova chucks. They also indicate that the Original Supernova is obsolete and hasn't been produced for over a decade. What they sell today is the SuperNova 2. There is/was also a Nova Scroll in addition to the Nova G3. One of their articles, "Difference between G3 and Supernova" may hold the answers for you.

Regards,
Dave

thank you for your response, i cannot find much info about the supernova chuck to be honest, its a discontinued model and only info about the supernova 2 comes up. The threading is not right for me (my lathe is a M33) and i hate adapters so i think i ll skip this one.

I checked out the ad and I noticed the chuck wrench is very, very, worn. I've had experience trying to find replacement for a lost chuck wrench similar to that (was able to find but wasn't easy) and that may be something to consider in your searches going forward. The chuck itself may be worth the $40 but make sure all the other parts and pieces are in decent working condition as they may not be easily replaced on older used chucks.

Most of the Nova & SN chucks require a threaded insert to match up to the lathe threads. If they don't have one for your lathe, you need to use an adapter. I agree with you on avoiding them if at all possible.

I don't believe that Teknatool makes any M33 inserts for their chucks, but they do make a version of the Nova G3 with fixed M33 threads. That model is designed only for M33 lathes & does not accept inserts like most of their chucks.

You might keep an eye out for one of those.

Exactly, either the G3 or the nova2 would be perfect. The thing is that most tools that i find are located in the US or the UK, so after shipping & duties the price is almost doubled..
