I don't know about the smell of Bocote... haven't turned any lately, but I do remember turning some really black ebony once that smelled like a wet cow lot to me... brought back the horrors of walking around the barn as a boy - barefoot.

It has a somewhat vinigar like smell......but I have yet to conect it with pickles.

Now Musk Ox horn that definately smells like a bon fire of hair and cow poo. To me zebrawood smells so much like horse poo I dont turn it anymore.

I don't smell pickles but I will say it has a pronounced odor, Olive be it Bethlehem, Jerusalem, European, or Mission just smells like olives. & since I love olives always makes me hungry!
