Ironwood help

First off I am not sure if this is the right place for this posting if not please feel free to move it (it kinda deals with finishing).
I have two pieces of ironwood I would like to make a salt and pepper mill set out of. I would like to leave them as natural as possible so as to retain the rustic look of the wood as it was found. I also need to fill the big cracks then seal the wood against it flaking off and losing pieces of the sap wood.
Any suggestions?

I would drizzle thin CA into the sapwood/heartwood junction , and any other place where something might come loose . Don`t overdo it though , because it will impart some extra gloss to the wood . You might want to do the same into any cracks which really affect the structural integrity of the piece . Personally , I would make the fill/ no fill decision after turning . I would give the thin CA a couple days to cure .

Wish I had those pieces . They should turn out great .

Wayne: Thank you for your reply. I was not going to turn the wood I want to leave them the way they are except for drilling the hole and the sealing.
