I want to get an iPhone and am doing a little bit of research between the 16 and 32 GB phones. I don't plan on using it to hold much music as I already have an iPod Touch that I use on a docking station at the office and a Shuffle for the car. I'm leaning towards the 16 GB but not sure how much memory apps and misc stuff will take up. Is music the main memory user, or do the apps, etc take up more space that I'm thinking they will?

music is the big memory killer. I only have an 8gb card in my Droid and maybe 1gb is used for non-music stuff. And I still have a ton of music on it.

I just looked at the apps on my droid. I am sure the iphone ones are no different. The largest app is google earth 30MB. I have a couple 10MB mostly map ones. Everything else is 5MB or less. Most are 1-3MB.

I have alot of apps on my phone and have only used 3 GB. I have 1.5 GB of music on it.

I have the 16GB iPhone 3GS, I have put over 10GB of music on it and still have tons of rooms for Apps, pictures and misc. Unless you exepect to put A LOT of movies and music on it the 16GB will be fine.

There are some large apps, I have a few that are 400MB +, mainly games.
