I don't think you'll find an investor, other than your wife or maybe some family member, to make pens in your basement or barn. Investors will require a real business and plan...like you are going to take on Bic, so you have a plan to mass produce 5 cent pens, you have a little starting capital and you also will need to secure a guaranteed couple of buyers which you will take that to the bank or investors and they will look at your cost analyses and personal vested interests...so you have $100,000 in the business...that's the building and a fork lift and a pot to pee in really. Now you need $500,000 to buy injection molding equipment and plastic. So you have 20% vested, and your buyer contract is for 120 million pens, a value of 2 million dollars, so minus the half million invested there will be 1.5 million in the bank, minus 40 percent to the investors leaving you with $900,000 and they take $1.1 million. That's not exact figures...it's theoretical figures as an example of what it would take. Would you invest in a single man making pens on a wood lathe? You don't know what sales will be like one day to the next. You invest in things that prove themselves, not in fantasy, and you invest to make big returns, not pennies.
