Hi !
I joined this forum a while back and never introduced myself. My name is David and I reside outside of New York City. Hope it's acceptable but I can only turn on a metal lathe. Had several long sessions on a wood lathe with an instructor but soon realized it was not for
me. Been making pens off and on for several years and I am always interested in learning. This forum has really inspired me especially the quality and skill of the members and as a result I have learned more from this forum than any book. Really enjoy what seems to be an unselfish learning process everyone seems to share. I have several tips that have worked for me over the years and perhaps you would allow me to share them with you as time goes on. Thank you!

David,
Glad to have you joining in on the fun with us. Several people use the metal lathe for making pens and they do EXCELLENT jobs. Since you have a metal lathe, that means you are used to some precise work and I will bet your pens reflect that. Post a few picts when you can.

Below is a link to a PDF file that goes over many aspects of pen turning from finish - to pens - to tools - to methods etc. It is not in detail but a good overview for pen turning. You already know quite a bit and I don't know if there is anything new in the file that you don't know about but I am including it for you to look over.

Also included below is a link to a new post that gives some information that people wished they had known earlier in pen turning. Some good information by those that make pens.
