I just picked some of this last week. My old 30 RO sander broke down, and I decided to pick up a Dewalt for about $80 and decided to try an assortment of the 3M mesh. When I got back to sanding, I had two variables, but the 80 grit sanding went a lot quicker and the mesh does last longer.
If you do decide to go to a mesh, you need an interface pad to protect the hooks on the pad. Craftsman mesh includes an interface pad. Oftherwise you can get some that are 1/2" think for contour sanding.
