These are a couple of rings I have tried using a UV activated resin as the casting resin. One is a steampunk ring made from watch parts and the other is inlayed with synthetic opals. I painted the ring blank black and then used the UV resin to hold the inlay in place and activated it with a UV flashlight. After all the inlays are in place, add more resin to build up the layer, curing it as I went. The steampunk ring is a size 11 and the opal ring is a size 5. 20200501_130452_copy_1280x1354.jpg20200501_130452_copy_1280x1354.jpg20200501_130546_copy_1280x1531.jpg20200501_130654_copy_1280x1467.jpg20200504_105145.jpg20200504_105332.jpg

How did the UV hardened resin turn? I have been thinking about trying it, however, it seems expensive for pen blanks.

I really did not do any turning with tools on the ring, I built up the layer of resin until it was higher than the edge of the sides of the ring blank. The blank has a recess in it that you put your inlay material in. Then I wet sanded it until it was smooth and flush with or slight bevel to the sides of the blank. I would think it would turn like regular 2 part resin, but not sure. I paid 15.99 for the bottle I got and 10.99 for the flashlight. I would think you could cast a pen blank with it, but yes, it probably would not be economical. For doing the ring, it is ideal, as you place an item on the ring, coat with resin, cure, repeat until the area is fully covered.
