Inlay question

I turned a pen lastnight and decided to give inlay a try.
I was following the article by Ed (http://www.yoyospin.com/inlay/)and it went pretty smoothly. (well written and easy for me to follow)
anyway.. my question is is there a good technique to get the "spots" so not look dull?

I used ultra fine glitter and filled the holes with ca glue.
I then went back over it lightly to remove the excess glue and sanded to 1000 grit.
I use the HUT friction polish as my finish.
The pen itself looks great, but the spots look dull after the final sanding. Any suggestions?

Ca is plastic and you won't get much of a shine out of 1000 grit.
If you don't have Micro mesh, you can get auto motive sandpaper up to 2000 grit.
micromesh is cheaper in the long run.

Glad you found the tutorial useful. Try buffing in your final finish process...the Beall system with R-wax instead of carnauba works for me.

Thanks Guys. I don't have a buffing system.. yet. So I'll try going to a higher grit. I have a few more that I didn't use.

Ed, the instructions were very good, I liked the pictures. They helped alot.

If you want a buffing system, order a pair of Bruce Boone's adapters so that you can use a paint roller as a buffer. Mine came in today and work great! Here is the link.

What type of paint roller works the best? How does it compare with a buffing wheel?

Joe--get a real lamb's wool roller with a 1" nap. Results are comparable to a buffer. You'll love it.
