I flipping through the channels last night. It was either QVZ or HSN that caught my eye. They had a battery charger (renu-it) that could do alkiline batteries as well as rechargable ones. Has anyone ever seen one in action? An internet search shows a lot of different ones out there that do the same thing.

I don't know that much about them I just did a quick check to see what Amazon.com had and they carry quite a few universal battery chargers some have 4 and 5 stars some only 2 or 3. They prices are not bad and most time lower then QVC

Careful recharging alkalines. Years ago I had one blow up (LITERALLY) in the charger. Ruined the battery and didn't do the charger and tabletop any good either. The charger was supposed to be able to recharge alkalines, but didn't try again after that.

+1 on what Sharon said. Yes it is possible to recharge alkalines, but it is not recommended for obvious reasons.

I have used one for a couple years. I only recharge batteries a couple times and mine has some technology inside that tests the batteries to see if it will hold a charge and at what %. On mine, the batteries go inside and there is a cover that is placed on top so I guess in the event it one goes pop, it's contained inside. I have never had any problems but it can happen.

It will only works on alkaline and do not attempt to charge other types with it.

I have rechargeable batteries and they have their own charger.
