I need to upgrade from my crummy 6" digital calipers... these European pen directions say to turn to 0.515 and my el-cheapo calipers only read to the hundreds...

I was told not to buy these cheap things... but did it anyway... [:I]

Recommendations for a decent set of digital calipers that wont break the bank?

Thanks

Marc; I purchased two of these, but didn't like them. The slide action on my two was not smooth.

I much prefer the 4" Harborfreight ones.

The only problem I have with these is that the battery doesn't last very long.

Sorry Chris.......

Sorry Chris.......

I have the Harbor Freight one too, and yes, the batteries didn't last long. I did find the batteries at Walmart. Three for under 5 dollars I believe.

This may be cheating, but go out and buy one of those packs of lights sold as Quik Brites. Each light has 3 batteries in it, you get 30 batteries for $10.00!

I have 4 or 5 digital calipers. I reach most often for the Fractional ones or the 4" ones. I like the 4" cause I can drop them in a pocket and they don't hang out, fall out, or get pokey.

Now if some smart cookie would make a combination of the 2. A large read fractional, on a 4 inch frame.

Harbor Freight is having a sale on the 6" Centech Digital calipers for $9.99 until April 7th. These are normally $36.99, but show on their webpage as $ 16.99.

I happened to be in the store on Monday this week in Huntsville, AL., and noticed the sale price and bought a pair for $9.99

Auto shutOff, Metric and inches, accurate to .001, extra battery, nice foam padded plastic case.

Stock Number is 47257. They are even less than the 4" model now at $14.99

For TEN BUCKS these are the deal of the week.

OK...first post, but I've been reading since January 2nd! Hope this helps somebody!

I ordered the Harbor Freight ones... they never seem to ship in less than a month, so I only use them when I don't care when it gets here.

Thanks for all the suggestions... hopefully they will arrive before summer :D

Interesting to hear the story of the HF caliper and the batteries... I thought mine was bad!!

I just keep the battery out of the thing until I need it... I don't need to use it all that often!
