Just got home from work and it's slicker than owl s*** out there. Two interstate over passes closed off due to ice and wrecks. Back roads like ice rinks in places, skating on 4 tires is scary. If you are in the Richmond area stay home tonight.

Yup,

Getting icy here too.
I remember driving at times around here when the ice was slicker than snot on a doorknob!

That was before front wheel drive cars.

School has already been called off for tomorrow and some roads/intersections are closed due to the ice.

Don't envy you at all... hate driving on ice.

I went out to the shop today to putter... the thermometer on the back porch said 37 deg... figured in the shop with the heater I could get up to nearly 50 deg and be able to work a little... it was raining a slow cold rain and after 3 hours in the shop with the heater going, it got up to 39 deg.... my feet got cold and I had to quit about 3 pm.

studded tires and common sense are the only things to use around here - we get our share of winter roads ! Drive safe!

Ditto! We never bothered with them where we lived on the west coast because there wasn't that much snow there. When we moved here to Saskatoon we got plain steel rims and studded tires for both vehicles. Almost as good as driving on dry pavement when the roads are icy or packed with greasy wet snow. Worth every penny.

We had pile up's here yesterday. The crossroads of America. A wreck on every interstate. That's why I like it at home.

Studded tires are now banned in Indiana. I guess some of the studs tended to become projectiles.

Yup, used to run studded snow tires. Also had a set of chains. We could only use the studded tires during certain winter months.

I think they must have banned common sense around here seeing how some drive and all the accidents.

If you're in the market, ever, I'm a huge fan of the Glisaved Nordfrost 100 pre-studded tires I got for my wife's car.

For the truck, I have Nokien Haakapelitta LT2 tires - just about as good as you can get in a light truck tire, but not as nice as the Gislaveds.

Either way, they're pretty amazing. I can't believe I used all season before.

We got Nokiens pre-studded on both the Rogue and Frontier but I'd have to dig out the receipts to tell you which ones they are. Eventually when they wear out we'll get the same or newest at the time versions. I figure if anyone is going to know what a good snow tire is it is going to be the Finns or Scandinavians. All season tires are at best only good for three seasons. ;)
