After being in a funk for quite a while I bought Russ Fairfield's turning video's and now I'm itching to turn again. Problem is that I have the worlds most cluttered shop. This is going to cease and it's going to happen soon!

I put in an air conditioner so I can work without sweating to death. Turned the table saw that's more of a table than a saw so it does not take up so much room (It's going on a mobile base soon). Turned the lathes and created a "U" workstation. (2 wood lathes and a metal lathe). The band saws will be put on mobile bases as well as the drill press and I'll roll them out as I need them.going to go through everything in the shop and pare down. anything that is not needed immediately will be disposed of or moved into the crawl space.

Wish me luck!

Good luck! One thing to remember is that the shop didn't get messy over-night, and it will not get clean over-night either!

cleaned up my shop yesterday...here's my tutorial:

Well, I made a lot of progress this weekend.

I'll share some of the "before shots" that were taken a while ago. and I'll share some "after shots" when I get things cleaned up a little more.

That looks like a normal shop to me. I thought you said it was bad.:)

If you look closely you might notice there is NO PLACE TO WALK!
However I do know where everything is..... IT'S IN THE FREKIN SHOP!

The new arrangement is opening up a lot of room and I believe it will be a much safer place to work.

Boy, I don't feel so bad now!!! I'll have walking room once I sell/get rid of the 61" Projection TV that got moved to the garage when it was replaced with a Sony 52" Bravia. Use up some of the metal I have for my rod iron fence (hint....get'er done!!!) Throw out old car parts (what dad gets when the boys finish up working on their cars.....lol). And general rearrainging to make it come together....

Should be getting (sometime this week) my 25" x 48" Maple butcher block top for the portable lathe table I'm building.

Good thing I'm taking a week and a half off starting next week!!! lol

Update:

Progress has been made. I have the lathe's set in a "U" shaped workstation.

The Bandsaws have been moved to a more accessible location:

Smaller tools have been put on the ceiling, out of the way:

Speaking of tools; I think I may have gone a little overboard. (this is about 2/3 rds of what I have):

I figure I'll be turning in another week or so.

Lookin Good! I'll help with the tool clutter! Just pack up 3-4 of those and send to me and I'll give them away as door prizes at the Missouri Picnic in August! No need to thank me...always willing to help!:D Keep going...you're on a roll![:p]

Scott, I am willing to give you a hand if you want, I'll come by and take a load of stuff to my mess and increase the number of items that I will need later. I need to talk with you about something anyways.

MAN I HOPE THOSE MAGNETS ARE STRONG! If it ever starts "raining" turning tools, that will be one dangerous "rain dance".....

They are not magnets. It's a spring clamp type of assembly and they are in an "out of the way location" where nobody can walk so if they ever fall they will not fall on my head. I'm also intending to make us some sort of a safety strap system for extra measure.
