Thankfully it was bought at a charity auction so the price doesn't necessarily reflect what the item is worth, just how much they wanted to donate to the cause. That said retail on a pen like that would still be ludicrous IMO.

I love seeing pens sell for ridiculous prices like that .... It can only help us as pen makers! I keep a few newspaper clippings of different pens that have sold for high $$$$. When customers bring up vintage pens or question why anyone would pay more than $2 for a pen it's nice to be able to show them that SOME people value a well made pen.

The annoying thing is that there are people out there that will pay that much for what is a very nice pen with a really famous name attached. Our pens are equally as nice, it's just we are not as well known!
