Ok here is one for the apple phone crew, trying to replace my android apps with apple ones. The itune to appstore interface on computer sucks but that is besides the point. What scanner bar code reader type does everybody use doesn't have to be a shopping and compare type?

Getting a headache since you can't do a search with out including all the crap games etc. Having read 3 dozen descriptions, reviews of the apps. Any suggestions or does anybody use Scanlife barcode reader or fast scanner?

RedLaser. Does Bar codes and QR codes. There is also amazon price check if you want to quickly see what Amazon sells the item for or their reviews on an item.

Bakado and RedLaser both are free and both work well for me.

Just curious, why are you using the ITunes computer interface, rather than just downloading directly to your IPhone?

I haven't used the ITunes computer software since OS4.

Not really using it, only to access to get to the app store and read about the apps on a 21" screen:biggrin: I do download from the phone. Have had the phone 27 hours and it did give me fits yesterday with that auto correct or trying to figure out what I wanted to type! it wouldn't let me spell my name and the gmail mail user name it wanted a different way than it is. All of theses phones are a misnomer "Smart". If they weren't so"Stupid" and not being so helpful! Try to make a phone call by typing in the number and it keeps asking is it this one etc.
I know it will get better with use but the search function in the app store sucks. I don't do games and for every bar code scanner they showed, they had 3 games:rolleyes:
But now wife's sister, and both kids and the son-in-law should be happy the whole family has apple phones. Now we have more people to call for help
With the camera and talk app it's just a little bigger than the Dick Tracy wrist phone!

I was glad they made that siri easy to turn off. that's the last thing I want or need. The phone telling me stuff it doesn't have a clue about!

I've got 4 that I use but I mainly use ScanLife. It works almost all the time. So, in order I use: - ScanLife
- RL Classic
- Microsoft Tag
- Mobile Tags Reader

As far as I can remember they are all free on the Apps Store.

+1 for Bakado

Two things that might be useful to you.
1. Under the settings menu, you can turn off/on "auto spell" anytime you want. I'm a decent speller and like you, I find auto correct to be a PITA.

2. I find it MUCH easier to just type in the type of app in looking for in the App Store's search function. It is easily found by just looking for the magnifying glass symbol. For example, just by typing the words bar code in the keyword line, it will only pull up the bar code apps. TRYING TO FIND ONE APP by cruising categories or "top downloads" will make you cranky.

Once you learn to manipulate the phone, you'll wonder how you ever survived without it. You can talk and have it translate to text, you can talk, surf, message and use GPS directions all at the same time. I've owned just about every phone made and none come close to my IPhone .

Yes that was the first thing I found yesterday, after the siri off button! And I know it will get better with use, I have a tablet Asus for the waiting rooms when taking my mother to the doctors.

But some of the tech stuff is just so pointless, it irritates me that you can't remove it from the phones. The only good thing so far is the I5 phone doesn't have as many pointless apps that can't be removed.
The screen is nice and clear etc.
And the otter box should be here end of the week, it sounds from the people that have them on this forum it will work well.

While looking for a flashlight app for the I 5, no lighter's, flashing colored lights, or other stuff. I did find an app that some on here might be able to use. Magnifying glass with digital magnifier with flashlight. It is by "Falcon in motion LLC." A great app, does what it clams and has just enough adjustable features under settings that you can tailor it to your needs.

Should be helpful in the store trying to read the fine print on labels, or as one reviewer said reading a menu in the dimly lite restaurants.

Hi Glen,
I'm a long-term Apple fan (since 1984) and absolutely LOVE the iPhone. I think of it as "assistive technology" for the organization or memory challenged such as myself. Also find Siri VERY useful, once you get used to it and its limitations. For example, my pharmacist's name is Glen Yee. I told Siri to set a reminder to "call Glenn Yee." Later, I shared with him (he's a friend) Siri's reminder to "call Glen a yeast!" I know your point was about bar codes, and you got some excellent responses. I have nothing to add to that. Perhaps you need more time to make friends with your phone before branching out. However, if you would like a list of other apps that I find very useful, let me know. Russ

Thanks, Russ wife found or somebody sent her some of the silly things it says I guess there all ready is a couple of sites for them. And yes I know it will take some time to complete the change over. I do miss the lack of menu options for the apps like the droid has. But in for two years now  so will learn to use it and despite the things so far I like it. I just am not ready to take information form the digital chip by voice!
