My husband dozed off last night in the recliner with a 20 oz bottle of diet soda in his hand and his Acer laptop in his lap. The entire contents of the soda bottle dumped into the Acer keyboard.

I took out the battery, memory, and hard drive and ran the computer under running water to wash out the carbonic acid, took it out to the shop and blew out as much water as I could with the air compressor, and set it in front of a fan overnight. I put it back together this morning, and it booted right up.

It stills smells of Dad's Root Beer, however.

The next BIG THING!!! Scented laptops!

When I worked on computers, someone reported their keyboard wasn't working. I picked up the keyboard to check the cord and coffee ran out the lower corner. The person sitting at the desk said they didn't know how that happened, but as I bent down to remove the cord from the back of the machine, I noticed three coffee cups in the waste can...:biggrin::biggrin:

LOL. I have similar story. Faculty member called me to her office, saying the Key board would print several letters /gibberish with each key stroke. On inspection I notices water puddles on her desk. So I asked '"has water spilled in the keyboard?" she looked at me and said "No"

I picked up the keyboard and dumped several teaspoons worth of water out of the keyboard and on to her desk.

She looked at me with the dumbest look on her face and said, "How did that happen?"

A laptop that works and smells like root beer? Sounds to me like you made an improvement! Quickly have this thread deleted and then start offering to add custom scents to laptops using your top secret method for just 3 easy payments of $19.99.

Now where is that bottle of Crown Royal? Just a few precious drops would do? How about dust from the Jack Daniels blanks? How about a little reservoir filled with you favorite and every time you hit the space bar it would squirt a little mist. Then........... you........... would .............have .................some .............thing.

Had to put the dots in so it would come out right.

At FedEx, we use plain old white rice in plastic containers to dry out hand held devices that get dunked, dropped in puddles, rain, toilets you name it. Pretty much the same thing you did. Take the covers off, remove the battery and place in a plastic tub covered with rice. I pour rice into the battery compartment before covering. After a couple of days the moisture has been absorbed by the rice. Works on cell phones, hand helds and radios.
