I sand 220, 320, fast CA sand 500, hit it with The EEE grit, then put a coat of Spray Gloss Lacquer, wait 10min then spray again, wait another 10min spray again. Is that it or am I to sand after it is set up and dried? because sometimes it looks uneven wet. I try to spray evenly! on the can it says put on wait 2min then spay again, 3 times

Tom,

I think you are under sanding your work. (If there is such a term.) I generally sand through 600 grit, and then switch to micro mesh through all 9 grits of micro mesh. If you wish to use lacquer, seal either with CA or the appropriate sanding sealer. If I wish to get a really good finish with lacquer, I spray at least 7 coats about 15 minutes apart. After spraying each coat, I hand turn the lathe for a minute or two. Then, I set the pen aside for a week to cure. If the coats are sprayed well, I use plastic polish lightly, TSW and assemble. If I didn't spray well, I use micro mesh lightly before switching to the plastic polish. Did I come up with this method? Nope, learned it from a turner far better than I'll ever be. Are there other ways to use lacquer? Of course, this is just the method that works for me.

FWIW.

I have not used EEE but I am going to guess it has a wax in in.
If so you will have a problem getting the lacquer to adhere.
Go to Russ Fairfields site and read what he has to say about finishing. He does agreat job of covering the subject of spraying lacquer.

I "rub out" my lacquer finish. After putting a sufficient number of coats on the pen(this is subjective as different people have a different definition of "coat". I also tend to use the lacquer as a filler, so I may use more coats than others), I wait several days for the lacquer to cure. I then remount the blanks and wet sand through the last 7 sheets of micromesh or 600 throuugh 2500 grit sandpaper. I then finish with an automotive scratch remover.
