Don't you just hate it when you have a dozen ideas running through your head to possibly make money, but you don't have the tools or space to do it? I would love to try my hand at making simple furniture and a few other items but like I said not money, space or tools.

Been there done that

I know what you mean --- I made "cottage" furniture for my own house and that paid for the tools, but it is difficult to get started. $1100 for a table saw, $5/600 for a mitre saw plus Jointer/Planer, thickness planer, drill press, router & table and the first thing you know you're talking about real money. And Cottage furniture is very forgiving regular furniture is not.

I will tell you this making furniture is something that you better find your own niche in if you pursue it. You need your own style because it is not an easy market to get in and make money. So many alternatives out there. Also you need space to do things like that or cabinet making too. If you have other smaller scaled ideas I would pursue these first. Not to discourage you but until you get your feet wet and name out there you might spend your money more wisely and time also. Good luck.

Problem is as you solve the space and tool issues you start to figure out that it all takes time as well. I have way to many ideas to ever get to.

Starting a business is much like starting a family. If you wait until everything is right---time, money, space, employment, etc. , you will never do it.

On the other hand, if you can't overcome those issues, you are probably better off NOT doing it--far larger issues loom on the horizon, if you are in your own business--you will have to solve those "without prior experience" and survive.

You hit that nail

I have a good friend who makes cabinets (and other things) as a hobby - and he is good at it but they take so much time, effort and materials and such an investment in tools that he'd have a tough time making a living at it. It looks easy on TV but it ain't. Fortunately he is retired, being close to 80 and doesn't really have to do it.

I don't have delusions of grandeur. But I do have some original ideas for some things. I think part of it is the addiction to wood. But living in an apartment with limited space and like I said no where for the tools even if I could afford em. I also know it is hard to make a living doing it, but I think it would help my stress levels some ( maybe ) . Could be all this is from laying around and being very limited in what I can do ( could also be the medications I am on ) . I guess it is one of those things that you want it more when you can't have it.

Your limitations are a state of mind. As long as you find an excuse for not being able to do something, then you will never succeed.

Figure out how to do it with what you have and you will enjoy it so much more:biggrin:

Some limitations you can't fix right away. Sometimes limitations are not being able to afford to live in a house instead of an apartment. But part of my limitations right now is medical can't even stand in one spot to make a pen right now.
