I got a Laguna LT16 from CL at a good price with a 132" resaw king blade on it. It's a couple of years old but in great shape and works perfectly. I already had a Rikon Deluxe 14" (111" blade), which is great. I don't plan on keeping both. The thing is, a Laguna like this is $1700 new and the blade is $240, I paid $800 for it. I got a deal. But it doesn't have some of the nice features that the Rikon has. They both have a 1.5hp motor, but the Rikon is 110V and the Laguna is 220V. The Rikon has a nicer fence and table, and is easier to tilt, adjust, tension, etc. Basically the Rikon, in actual working capacity is better suited for my needs. BUT, I know the Laguna is much better for resawing, of which I do VERY little. I don't know whether I should keep the Laguna b/c chances are I'll never get my hands on another one again, or whether I should keep the Rikon b/c it's more practical and better meets my limited bandsawing needs. What should I do?(oh and haha in advance if you say just give it to you...I see that coming a mile away!).

Guess it more depends on your financial situation. Me... I would have NEVER bought it. Couldn't afford it, and couldn't justify it. But if I for some reason had one, I'd sell it! But it depends on you cash flow, I guess.

Well I think it would depend on what your future holds. Are you going to stick to pens and the like? Then I would sell the laguna and put that money towards pen products. If you plan on getting into boxes or flat work for money, then keeping the laguna makes sense.

IF it were me, I'd sell the Laguna for at least what you paid for it, if not more. I do this with craigslist frequently. I purchase tools that have sat for a long time because the seller does not know how to properly list an item. I then clean it up and replace items that need replacing. For example, I sold a planer that I bought for $50, cleaned it up, replaced a star knob , and didn't even sharpen the blades. Ran a piece of 4/4 oak through it and sold it for $225 to the first guy that called. I had guys tell me I sold it too cheap when I told them it was already sold!

My cash flow doesn't justify having both, but I KNEW when I bought the Laguna that I could sell it for more than I paid for it since the guy selling it was just trying to sell it quick. I just have to decide if I want to sell the Laguna and make a profit or sell the Rikon and break even (upgrading the saw for free basically....except I can't decide if it would really be an upgrade!).

I've both found great deals and sold tools for top dollar on CL...a lot of it has to do with listing it properly, cleaning them up, taking good pictures and giving lots of information. It also helps to look up how much every add on and component costs new and comparing it. I've bought a couple of tools new, used them very little, and sold them for what I paid for them b/c the prices went up at the stores. No loss!

Iwould sell off the one that you won't really use. Lets face it, if you needed the Laguna in the first place, you would have found a way to get it.

Sounds like the Rikon is something you'll use more . Sell the laguna and make some money , the fact you may never own another doesn't really matter if you never use the one you own now .

Now if it were me I'd keep them both

I would keep the Rikon, sell the Laguna, and buy a resaw blade to fit the Rikon. If you actually resaw very little it makes little sense to keep the Laguna. IF you have to resaw in the future changing a blade is not that hard to do.

I would keep them both. I have two band saws, one set up for general work and the other for cutting bowl blanks and the like
I need the space and need the cash..keeping both is not an option. I hardly use it as it is really...just to cut pen blanks in half and whatnot. Besides, the Rikon has a quick release tensioner that makes blade changes sooooo easy. I'm pretty sure I'm going to sell the Laguna and keep the Rikon. I could use the extra cash with a baby coming in T-minus 6 months!

Not for nothing I sell tools part time at a dealer work full time as a trim guy and cabnitmaker and turn for my artistic relase. The laguna is the saw to keep it does everything the rikon does and more a better company standing behind it. plus when you need it down the line your not kicking your own ass for selling or worse yet your wifes not kicking yours for haveing to go buy one again. sell the rikon on cl make you money back

Man, I'm really torn. I keep going back and forth. Haha...maybe I will end up keeping both if I can't make up my mind!....or my wife will make it up for me:tongue::eek:
