The other day I was looking through some sites for some fonts to download for my wedding pens. Well I must have picked up a disease:biggrin: I tried my AVG to get rid of it and also ran my free version of AntiMaleware which usually works. But not in this case. What is happening is when I view sites such as this one certain words are turned to links. When scanned over with cursor they are ads for things.

My question is how do I get rid of my Disease:biggrin:?? Is it curable or am I terminal:eek:

Is there a Doctor in the house???

I got that little BUGGER:tongue::tongue::tongue: I crushed him and stomped on him. It was a small file left over from one of the font sites that I thought I had deleted. When I downloaded it I did not like the looks of it from the beginning and I tried to stop the loading and thought i deleted everything but that small bugger snuck through the cracks. I hit him with 480volts and terminated his life:devil::rotfl::mad-tongue:

I am cured:biggrin:

I had that happen once, very maddening. Took me a while to get it all cleaned out. I don't hate the internet but I sure would like to have 10 minutes alone with the people that do it, ah, one at a time and only if they are little:redface:

OH!!! I absolutely detest 3rd party toolbars! We have a couple web based apps that simply wont work with popup blocking and all the toolbars have them (among other useless stuff). With over a thousand users at work, we constantly get calls from poor souls that have unwittingly or unknowingly installed the darned things. So we constantly get calls because the apps have stopped working, and constantly have to instruct them to uninstall the blasted things (again!!!).

Stepping off my soapbox and going back to enjoying everyone's postings.

Firefox or Chrome are less susceptible to fly-by tool bars. I only use IE if I have to (like with certain network things at work that don't work correctly with Firefox or Chrome). If you really like to push things, try Opera.

I had a good one the other day, that was my fault. I have a new desktop with Windows 8.
I was reading an e-mail, sipping a little wine and started laughing, the e-mail was a joke. Of course I spilled my wing and as per universal law #27 the wine went right on the keyboard. My image on my screen immediately rotated 90' left! I blew dry my keyboard, using an air compressor, no help, rebooted about 4 times, no help, though I had trashed the keyboard. So I booted up and decided to do a search to get help. Try keying in text with things on it side, and the mouse is really screwed up. You move the mouse side to side the cursor goes up and down on the screen! But when i finally got what I wanted to search typed in in the place I wanted to type it, the first item on Bing had the answer for me. Press the 'Alt' and 'Shift' keys and down and click the 'up arrow' and kazam it all goes back to normal. The only thing left aft that is to work the kink out of your neck!

All is good with my computer again. We are friends again. I like whenever something goes wrong people right away, people want to sell you something new. Let me throw away my expensive computer and get a Mac or get rid of something else because of a glitch. That is the makeup of today. If its broke lets throw it away instead of trying to fix it. We are a wasteful society.

I am all good. Have a great day. and thanks for the help.

What was the solution? I'm a computer consultant and am always dealing with similar malware, so I try to stay current with the bugs.

I got the same thing. Pesky little thing seems a few things changed at the same time about a week ago.

Some words in the text here look like links that pop-ups into adds. I have seen this on other forums but they are intentional (until you pay for full membership)

Also about the same time I noticed that auto spell check went into effect across the whole net (actually not bad)

Also about the same time after changing pages (links or new browsers/tabs) I get a window that pops up saying I need a video player. I just close it and move on.

I got W-7, I.E.-10 got Norton and it didn't see anything, also down loaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware ran it and found 3 files but didn't solve this.

Any more clues on how to or what, where to look for a fix.

Like I said it's pesky but I can live with it. Just got to be careful where you put your mouse.

Here is an article with several suggestions for removing the text enhance ads. It probably loaded as a piggyback on something else you downloaded. You can search for it in your "add remove programs" list by sorting the list by date and looking at the most recent programs installed. You might find something there.

If you use firefox, you can reset it to get rid of any plugins it put into your browser.

Removing Text Enhance Ads Pop up - Forum

You can also download malwarebytes free from malwarebytes.org. Run it from safe mode, and remove any infections it finds.

Hello Sharon

I poited out what was the problem a few posts back. But to make short of this it was some file that was left in my programs setup. When I clicked on one of the font sites, I right away did not like the looks of what was happening. It was downloaing alot of stuff. I tried to stop the download and delete it. I thought i did but was not. So when someone metioned about removable programs I went in there and just deleted the latest thing that was added and that solved it.

John, stick to www.dafont.com

Great collection of fonts for free and no nasty viruses

Thanks Brad. I was looking for something like that.

Bruce you basically described my situation to the tee. The only exception was I did not get pop-up ads, just the links. I also used AVG and got rid of Norton a long time ago. Had way too many prolems with Norton. I did the malware scan and also came up with 3 problems but it did not correct it. As Sharon mentioned the best thing to do is go into your program removal files and erase or remove the latest download and any attachments to it such as toolbars. Just match the dates they were installed and you will know which ones work together. That is how I got rid of that little bugger of mine.

Thanks all.
