To get a quick capture of a screen, I always use the print page (sorry, print screen) button. Then paste it in a document by hitting the control key and the letter V key. You can then crop as needed.

When using the print screen option it literally is like running a copy (or taking a picture) of everything you can see on your screen. I then use crop to edit down to what I want.

John, hit "print screen" button first, then open up a paint program page from your Start menu, all programs, accessories, paint program. (all these in windows XP) (I am not sure about vista and all the newer version. ))

when the paint opens up you go under the edit drop down menu and you'll see paste option, you paste it ( now you'll see whatever was on your screen) now look at the menu on the left of the paint program and you'll see an option like a hashed square, you need to click your cursor on that then it will give a big block put your cursor on the left corner of your section you wan to save then drag to your right, now right click on your mouse and tel it to cut that section, then release the right mouse button.
go under the edit button now and choose select all option, then go under Edit again and tell it to "clear selection" you'll see that your entire picture is clear. now go under the edit button again and this time chose "paste" and now you have the section of the whatever you wanted on your screen. then you click save and put the file where ever you want and give it a name so you know where it is
Good luck.

Got it now. Thanks. I needed to hit F11 first to get the full screen shot.

Download the program ScreenHunter -- it is freeware, and I got it from cnet.com.

You use your mouse to window any section of the screen, and it copies just that window. It saves it as a jpeg, so you can use it to save info off a website, and email easily. (Great for those websites that will not allow a right-click to grab a picture for saving.)

I use it at work to grab small clips of spreadsheets, documents, our internal ERP system. You can just keep adding screen captures as needed, since it is initiated by a user-defined hotkey. (I use Alt-C, which is easy for me to remember since it is similar to the Ctrl-C shortcut used for Copy).

When you clip the image, you can immediately paste it in a document, and it also stores the image in a folder of your choice. I have this program on 3 PCs at home, and my work system.

One of he best freeware programs I've ever found.
