I just pulled my brnad new Delta 46-460 lathe out of the box to check it out. It has been in the garage for a couple of weeks. I went to remove the faceplate from the headstock after lossening the two set screws. It took a bit to get it off and when I did........chewed up threads!   .

Now I have to go back to Woodcraft this weekend and hopefully exchange it for a new one. (I pray they have them in stock!)

On a good note, I did manage to turn it on and man that thing is quiet and smooth!:smile::smile::smile::biggrin::biggrin:

Oh well.....just ranting!

It's the threads on the spindle itself that are messed up. I looked inside the chuck when I removed it and there appears to be a burr by where one of the set scres is supposed to be.

I called Woodcraft this morning and they told me to call Delta! So I called Delta and they told me to take it back to Woodcraft. So I called Woodcraft back and all they have is a floor modell left. They told me to bring it in and talk to the manager/owner to exchange it for the floor model. I told them I didn't want any issues because I live 3 hours away!

It ticks me off to have to go through all this. Like I explained to the guy at Woodcraft......I bought it 2 weeks ago. I just pulled it out of the box to set it up.

We shall see.......heading there tomorrow. Either I get a new lathe or my money back and I buy one off Amazon....

I never like to get the floor models, to many fingers have been on it and you don't know what may have been done to it

I have purchased two lathes that were "classroom" lathes. Both Jet "minis", both have worked fine and adding the two together, I paid about what you would expect to pay for one.

Now, admittedly I consider the owner a friend, but I know he has to feed his family, too.

Remember there is not too much you can do to break a lathe!!:biggrin::biggrin:

The sad part is that Amazon wouldn't give you any run-around like Woodcraft just did. They would make a direct exchange.

Hope you get this resolved quickly!

Woodcraft comes through!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a happy camper.......Woodcraft (in Ventura) exchanged the lathe for me. All they had was a floor model that was just put out on the floor. I fired it up at the lathe and checked it over. Everything looked good so I took that one.

I had to buy some sandpaper and glue which didn't go on sale until today. Woodcraft was kind enough to give me the sale price on everything a day early!

I am truly satisfied with their service and will continue to shop there when I am in town that way!!!!

Now it is time to order the rest of my stuff and make some pens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:biggrin::biggrin:

Hope you get it replaced & I'd ask for a discount off the floor model, to compensate for the inconvenience & the fact that it is a floor model.
Good Luck
