Well today was opening day for shotgun season here. Went on the morning hunt and only saw 2 squirrels. The afternoon I went to a different stand. When I got there I spent the next 2 hours knocking spiders down. No kidding I knocked down well over 100 spiders. Finally I had enough so I got out of the stand and sat by a tree, I picked up the soda I knocked out of the stand and opened it. Was on the ground roughly 20 minutes when out comes a 4 pointer. It is staring at me, I had all ready figured it was going to be an afternoon of just enjoying the woods so I was not ready. He was about 35 to 40 feet from me, staring me down, stomping, snorting. Finally was able to get the gun up take a shot, safety is on. Clicked it off and he vanished. Heard him off snorting and then heard him walk away.

Its the stories that make hunting so enjoyable. Been there many of times. Good luck the rest of the season. Maybe its a sign that something bigger is coming your way.
I haven't made it to the timber yet this year for bow season (which is killing me), so I'm hoping to have some good luck next weekend for the start of IL gun season. Good luck with those spiders!

So in your first stand you only saw two squirrels. At the next stand you saw a 4 pointer. How many points did you give to the first two squirrels, and just what constitutes a 4 point squirrel. Must have been one bad ass squirrel?

And don't forget the over abundance of spiders.

It's a 5 point scale over there. A 5 point squirrel can swallow a small adult raccoon whole.

Around here spiders will kill you. Not sure about your neck of the woods but if I saw that many spiders here I would be heading for the nearest bug bomb.

For reference, here is a local 5 pointer.
