Hello everyone, check out this sweet old planer I just picked up. 18" 5hp 3 phase Delta Rockwell, paid $500 for her, thats a heck of a deal. She needs a little TLC and I have to build a phase converter for her. I just need to make room in my garage for this little(I mean big) baby. So what do you guys think? Thanks, Victor

IF-- a big IF you can find a helical cutterhead with carbide inserts, you will have one heck of a planing monster.

Our shop just upgraded from the Powermatic 15" twin-blade cutter to a 22", 7.5hp with the helical cutterhead. We've planed close to a thousand board feet on the cutterhead and it still planes stuff nice, smooth, and slick.

The carbide cutterheads are costly but man are they worth it!!!!! 4 sharpenings in each head (just turn each chip 90*) and each sharpening will plane thousands of bf.

I will look into the helical cutter when I free up a little more money and get her back into tip top shape. My friend has the helical on his 20" powermatic(i think thats what he has) and it is nice well worth the money in the end. Thanks for looking at my baby. Victor
