I bought one from Grizzly a couple years back, also on clearance. Great for making faceplates, etc. THEN I ended up buying the tap holder for it, which cost more than the tap. It is possible to make one out of wood too, to fit this one tap, but I have a few large taps, so I wanted the handle.

TIPS: Since wood is softer than metal, the hole size can be a bit smaller.

When you thread, after three or four turns, you need to turn the tap back half a turn, and keep doing this for every turn, to clear the wood shavings.

To make a stronger thread, after threading I put some wood glue on the threads, and let it dry good. Then I run the tap again.

Sometimes I use a piece of 2" PVC pipe around the wood (the threaded part) to make it stronger. Kind of like a ferrule.
