I am making a "Majestic" three piece set from Chechen Burl, ( chocolate) as the site describes it. What would be the best way to do the finish on this wood? Wax? CA? Any suggestions?

I haven't used Chechen *Burl* per se, but I have used straight-grained Chechen for pens. Chechen is a hard wood but it has a kind of an open grain and I like the look and feel of it in its "natural" state so I decided not to use CA which looks too glossy for my liking. I ended up applying, first, EEE Ultra Shine, then, second, EEE paste wax, and, third, Renaissance Wax. I have been pleased with the result. I mean to try CA and then steel wool it to give it a matte finish, but I haven't tried that yet.

I've got a chechen burl pen I made for a co-worker. I finished it with CA and now (3 or 4 years later) the burl has slightly "adjusted" itself some, so there is some texture to it, not enough to crack the CA, but enough that it's obvious that it wasn't like that when I was sanding an polishing it....

So I would say, if you have a way or a source to stabilize it, DO IT!!! Otherwise, I would suggest a more traditional wood finish rather than CA. If the wood is going to move, CA is likely to crack...
