When I was in EE school back in 1964 (yeah I am old) a friend and I made a box that connected to our stereos and blinked our Christmas tree at specific frequency levels. We lived in an apartment and someone called the Fire Depart thinking our place was on Fire.

I have never been a big fan of the ostentatious lighting. Some folks just want to say "HEY LOOK AT ME!!!!!!!!!"

Around here the blow up wally world things are very popular. It is the land of tacky.

My brother in law does a display like that. I think he does it more for the challenge in programming the lights than anything else. I'm pretty sure it's the engineer in him. Their house does get pretty popular around Christmas time.
