Howdy

How many blanks can you get from 12"
was playing with the band saw and wondered how many more blanks i could get with the thinner blade ( forgot to measure it so dont ask :D stock grizzly one)

Put in a 1/8" blade on table saw and made a few cuts, then compared that to the band saw cuts, and the results are.

Band saw wins by one....
Table saw can get 14 blanks, band saw gets 15 blanks form 12"

The moral of the story change to a thinner blade on what ever saw your using. Ive used my scroll saw with a thin #2/0 blade.(.011â€)to cut some cocobolo. Ill have to figure out that one.

how many blanks can you get from a 11 1/4†by 4†piece of cocobolo
give up the answer is

Rough estimate of how many blanks you can get from one piece using a thick 1/8“ saw blade. The number is 1 to 19 blanks.

No way you say.........way I say.

5†long blanks
You can get 8 (5â€x13/16â€) blanks and a couple (5†x1/2â€) blanks

3†long blanks
You can get 15 (3â€x13/16) blanks and 1 (3â€x .74â€) blank

2 ½ “ blanks
You can get 16 (2 ½†x 13/16) blanks and 2 (2 ½ x ½), and 1 (6†x ½â€)

By now you are surely impressed with my post medicated math solving abilities.:D:D
