I noticed that Woodturningz does engraving...

Laser Engraving Info

What is not clear is what the process is, and how it works on different colored materials.

Is it laser?

Does it do best on white?

How does it do on solid black?

How about inbetween colors? Like Concord Ice?

Any input is appreciated...

Mike...

It will work on any material or color, it's the filler that makes it show up. Gold fill, for instance, will pop on a cocobolo or bocota while black filler on zebra wood or BOW looks super. I use WT for all of my engraving but do my own filling with acrylic artists paint, two coats.

Most woods will char from the laser, no fill needed. Some woods are much better than others. All acrylics and stabilized woods I've done, need a filler.

Lots of commercial fillers available from laser suppliers. Some use Rub-n-buff. If the customer likes a flush look, I use Tulip fabric paint. It comes in a squeeze bottle with a tiny nozzle. It shrinks a lot, so sometimes need a second coat. Then wet sand flush with micro mesh.
