Looks like they are predicting snow in Houston and Shreveport LA. The cold front behind the storm and moisture from the gulf. At least that is what the weather channel is saying today.

They think we will get between 1-3 inches here in Houston tonight. This will be the third year in a row we've had a little snow. Not bad but it will most likely shut everything down for the day tommorrow.

Sitting here wondering if they'll let us off early today and tomorrow. If it goes as usual, they'll wait until tomorrow after everyone has made it in and then tell us to go home.

Now that's the truth!

I expect to get a call from the alarm company tonight around 12am. Then we have to get dressed and drive to the office. If we don't go, they will call the police, then we get a fine. Happens every time there is any severe weather.

Well we probably wont get a single snowflake.:frown:For some reason snow just seems to migrate right around Austin.Never fails, everyone above us gets snow, and Houston gets snow.:confused:Whats going on here. Now i dont want a blizzard here or even the ice or sleet, but i grew up in Amarillo and we saw snow every year.I think i have seen snow once, maybe twice in Austin in the 12 years i have lived here and that was just a small flurry.:mad:I miss snow sometimes.

Can someone up north or down south of me mail me a few snow balls please?:biggrin:I will pay shipping!!!!!!PLEASE!!!!!!!:cool:PM me with your offer!!

Well up here, they are having to haul it away.. Pay for shipping and we could probably arrange for as many 53' trailers full you'd like :)

I had over two feet of snow on my driveway in Oklahoma City. Tinker AFB, where I work was closed both Tuesday and Wednesday due to the snow. I was able to spend a lot of time in the shop catching up on my turning projects.

Really!!!! 3" will shut the area down??? Seriuosly??? Really???? Really seriously???

Well John when you consider they don't own a snow plow. Alot of the freeways have bridge sections down there and with the moisture they are very prone to black ice. Yeah 3" would do it.

Seriously!! When it rains hard it Texas people on the roads freak out.You throw some snow and ice in the mix and all H#!L breaks loose!!Lots of frozen bridges. You have to remember that we done see ice or snow for that matter very often.

Well we are going to have to get some more snow down there so you guys can practice on. Our folks here are experts at hitting bridges and other cars going 70MPH when it is snowing and icy. We just shake it off and get the car to the repair shop and rent another.

LOL!!I personally do quite well on all terrains, but i cant say that for others! They,on the other hand are quite profecient at destroying personal and private property with there inconceivable driving skills!?And i dont know if you saw my offer on the first page, but i will pay all shipping charges for some snow.:biggrin:Dont know if i can afford enough for others to practice on,but i sure would like a snow ball or two,or three.......

I just had to hire a fellow to go up and shovel off my roof!

Chip is this a flat roof???

The reason I ask was because when I brought this up about using a snow rake the answers I got were no need to because the codes state that the roof can handle the weight. No need to shovel snow off a roof.

No, I have a hip roof. Therefore the angle is low, not allowing the snow to slide off. I have over 40" of snow on my roof!! The two guys have been here since 9 this morning, and they are about 3/4 of the way done. Sigh.

Chip, you wimp! You should be up there yourself doing it, getting a good workout!

Yes indeed, here in Central Texas, if we get a few inches of snow on the ground, they will shut everything down. Interstate 35, one of the nations most important interstates, will get shut down with a few inches of snow. Remember, we have no plows, no salt, and not real sanding systems. We are just not prepared for snow and no one around here (except the yankees:eek:) know how to drive in it.

Yeah, two years ago I would have been up there instead of spending 600+ dollars. You should see the snow piles around my house now!! LOL, you can barely see the house!

Being a transplant to Utah from Texas back in 87, I looked like an idiot driving to work with my Texas plates on my truck. I was ready to move back to Houston!, but fortunately, I bought a small front wheel drive car and just drove sllooowww. BTW, I did have to go up on the roof and shovel the snow a few times. The snow on the side of my driveway was as tall as I was.

Yep, sometimes in LA, just a 1/2" causes problems. People dont know how to drive in the stuff and we get lots of wrecks. Sitting hear watching the sleet start to accumulate. I live across the river so coming to work on Fri may be fun. :)

I live just below Ft Worth we got hit 3 days ago with ice my drive is up hill and We still cant get out

I'm from IA and will say TX just don't get it when it comes to snow and ice some are just plain stupid and speed along then slam the brakes on when a overpass comes then in the ditch they go:eek:

I was taught when driving on ice, forget the brakes because they don't help anyway. Just drive. Snow is very similar about brakes. They just make you slide worse.
When I am down south and the roads get slick, I go hide off the road somewhere. Same in So Cal when it rains any at all. Heck, So Cal and rain may be worse than Atlanta and snow!

NEVER believe the weather predictions. On the 10:00 o'clock news they said we would get 1/2 to 1 inch of snow last night which is typical of the rare snowfalls in our area. Right now we have 5 inches and it is still falling. There has not been a car down my road all morning.

You got ours than. They were predicting 1-3 inches here on Houston. All we got was sleet and icy roads.

Well we got some snow in Austin:eek:WHA..WHAT......:eek:Thats right. There is a least 1 -2 inches on the ground right now.:biggrin:So I officialy retract my offer to pay shipping for a few snow balls.:tongue:I now have my own.

Got up this morning to make my customary commute from the back door out the gate and across the steps up to my office, and did an accidental triple axel with a half twist on the ice on the back porch! just a tiny layer, enough to make the grass crunchy, but plenty to make that wood slick! No snow though. Kids will be bummed when they get up. No school, but no snow either. Glad I get to go to work! Now to make some coffee. At least the line that feeds the coffeepot isn't frozen again this morning.

Well you do realize that as the capitol of Texas, Austin is protected by a large bubble of hot air from the politicians that reside there....
