A while back, I saw a thread that showed a shop-built ornamental mill. The only thing that I really remember is that it looked like it was built on a lathe and used what looked like bicycle chain as a drive. A search of the forum suggests that I am completely insane.

I would love to try to build one of these, but I need to be pointed in the right direction. Does anyone remember this thread?

Search rose engine under other things we make, it was a thread by low 48. His was only a rose engine lathe, no milling operations, give me about a month and a half and i'll have the one i'm working on up hopefully.

That was exactly what I was thinking of. I'm going to pick up a copy of 'Router Magic' and see what I can come up with.

Have you made any more modifications to your machine?

I changed out the long side chain and sprockets with a Acme lead screw but got into a lot of gearing issues and the project is on the back burner for a while.

A rose engine head is in the distant future for it also.
