Hi people.

I posted last week that i was going on holiday to the US, and here is a little update so far.

We arrived on friday the 24th, and spent a couple of days in Houston, before going to the space center, and then for a nice walk at the Kemah boardwalk.
We then, on monday, went up to Mesquiteman, where we had an excellent time, getting a lesson in penmaking, and also got some of his blanks. Thanks for an excellent day !
We then went up to fredericksburg, where we stayed the night. Since then, we have been thru Eden, San Angelo, Big Spring, Lamesa, Seminole, Hobbs, Roswell, Vaughn, Encino, and are now in Moriarty for the night, before going in to Albuquerqy tomorrow.

Best stop will probably be Flagstaff, before going up to Grand Canyon for a few days. After that....time will tell !!

Sounds like you are having a good time. Grand Canyon is amazing, can take away your breath. If you get to San Francisco give a call. I will PM phone number.

When you get to Los Angeles just don't get lost. When I went there for work I got lost in an area of town known as Compton at about midnight. Lets just say I figured out real quick I did not belong there. Also got lost in an area known as Wilmington. Not a fun experience. Now that I think about it, I think I was lost everywhere I went in Los Angeles. Only thing I could find was my hotel in Torrance.

 I work just south of Compton in Carson. Real cultural awakening wasn't it? The thing about LA, is you can be in the highest real estate in the country and a 15 minute ride will get you to a place that you really don't want to be.

That being said, I don't think I'd ever want to move out of Southern California. Beaches, mountains, deserts, all very close, not to mention cultural and food diversity. I'd probably get bored real quick anywhere else.

Yes it was Ken. I was out there visiting the refineries for the company I work for and operate pipelines out of. I also went up to Santa Paula and Ventura. It was like I went to a different world. The Pacific Highway drive was beautiful though and did get some seashells at Malibu beach for my kids to bring back home.

I enjoyed our visit immensely, Vegard and Flora! I just wish you guys had more time to spend here! How was the drive to Fredericksburg? Do you now believe that Texas has some hills? :)

Does Texas have hills ?

Hell Yes, it does ! Beautiful, is all I can say ! And what a drive we had, mile after mile of extremely beautiful terrain, on a nearly deserted highway, it cant get better than that !

The only thing, where is all the wildlife ?? We thought maybe we would see some snakes, or cougars, or something, but only see livestock ! Not even a dead snake on the road. Dissapointing... :-)

We are now in New Mexico, we went straight up to Fairmont, to see the Indian Fair that is here this weekend, hope it will be good.

Vegard,

Keep us posted on your progress and remember, don't be a stranger once you get back to Norway. Heck, I may come visit you guys some day!

If you'll still be in Albuquerque, tomorrow is the start of balloon fiesta. It's a pretty amazing thing to see! It's the most photographed event on earth for good reason.

And be sure to eat green chile while you're in New Mexico.

I was born and raised in New Mexico, and I gotta say - I really miss the big sky, the mountains, the food...

Ken

It took a few years for me to get used to Colorado after spending my entire life in Orange County. I still miss the variety and culture of So Cal.

Guys, I hope you have a wonderful memorable and SAFE trip!

Nothing unusual about that....it's a chore to even know what the name of the city you're in out there....and if you travel two blocks you might well be in a different one.

A small update.

Yesterday we were at the Navajo fair in Shiprock, an it was very nice, lots of Indians, very hot, great parade, just very nice !

Today we went to Grand Canyon, South rim, and the only thing I can say is WOW !
