I bought this set a while back and finally got around to finishing them all. I took it slow on the last one as it was the first thing I've turned after the carpal tunnel release surgery. They were turned on a regular mandrel with a live center. I used pens plus for a finish then used a cutoff tool to finish separating the scrap end, which was finished by hand sanding and buffing. That worked just OK. If I keep doing closed end stuff, I'm gonna need a pin chuck.
I stole the handle idea from @BoonareeBurl that he used for the Rollester pens. I think it lends itself well to the hobby knife handles.
This is pretty picture heavy, but I'd like to know what you think about the pictures. I've been experimenting with the black background. The white balancing is definitely inconsistent, but that's the same with the lighter background with my phone on auto. Anyway...
The brass is Bocote, which I've been using for a couple weeks. You can see the patina on that already. This is overturned. I trusted the bushings. I know better. Oh well.
The chrome is a stabilized cross cut spalted maple blank that I got as a gift with an Etsy order a wile back.
The gunmetal is the last blank of ebony I had (and don't plan to get more because it's so prone to cracking)
