A friend of mine was looking at some of my pens for Christmas presents and talked about getting something unusual for his business partner. I mentioned that there was historic woods available and he really like that idea as his partner is a big George Washington fan.
I looked around and found this site: Historical Woods of America - HIstoric Wood
He was interested in any of these three George Washington woods, Horse Chestnut, White Mulberry and White Oak 1783 1771, he wanted something that George Washington time and he could have actually touched.
After a week here is the response that I got back from the website:
Sorry for the delay in responding. Yes, we have pen blanks available. I do not have the white oak available in blank size at this point but the other two woods are ready. There is only a small amount of the mulberry remaining so those sell for $160. The horse chestnut sells for $100. Woods come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Just let me know if you are interested.
At this price for the blanks the total pen cost was way more than he wanted to spend. Not sure that I would feel comfortable working with that anyway. One slip with the skew and you just blew up a very expensive blank.
So if anyone is interested here is where you can get some very historic wood.
Mike
