I had a great week of vacation this past week. I spent most of the week working on my house. Everything was going along great until I got a call from my sister on Friday. My dad Al was at his home working on his house and he had a bad accident. He fell off his scaffolding and broke his hip. He laid on the ground for at least 20 minutes calling out for help. One of his neighbors were getting in their car to leave and thought they heard something, investigated, and found my dad laying along the side of his house. He was taken by ambulance to Sanford where they had to replace his entire hip on Saturday. It was a long procedure and recovery but they took good care of a GREAT MAN!!!
We are hopeful for a full recovery.

Going through a long recovery right now myself. Tell him to stay strong, many thoughts and prayers will be sent his way.

Your dad will be in my prayers.

Thanks Jim!
The surgeon that operated on my dad was not suppose to be there but somehow plans changed and my dad had a great surgeon work on an unusual, badly broken hip.
My dad is not the kind of guy to blow his own horn but I will say, I don't think his service for others is complete.

Hope all is well. Sounds like your dad needs to carry a cell phone at all times. My dad fell at a fishing dock before getting into his boat. Lucky for him he had his cell to call 911 etc. Who knows how long he'd have laid there if not. I am glad his neighbor came by to check things out. Wish the best for your dad's recovery.

Hip replacements are much easier to recover from then knees. I am glad that he is doing well. If he does his PT and OT he will recover well.

Thanks Cindy!
The doctor was willing to let him go home but since he is a widower and by himself we all think it best if he goes into rehab for a while.
Less worry for everyone.

He had his phone nearby where he was working but he couldn't move at all after the fall.
My brother wants him to get a medical alert device that he would wear.
My dad is pretty active and I am comfortable with him keeping his cell phone for emergencies. I think we can convince him his climbing on ladders etc are over.
