LOML and I were getting up late for us - around 7 AM when LOML asked if I was shaking the bed. I asked if she were. We saw the fan/light chains swaying. EARTHQUAKE. We thought it was probably from the New Madrid fault about 100 miles away. We live about 30 miles south of Memphis, TN in MS.

Then we heard on the news that it was from Pawnee, Oklahoma, about 400 miles as the crow flies. 4 miles deep; 5.6 richter.

Of course we are used to quakes as we lived in Japan for 25 plus years. We lived in Osaka in January '95 when Kobe had the 7.1. Kobe and Osaka border. That was a scary ride.

It really woke all of us Okies up this morning. Strongest one ever to hit Oklahoma. The center was about 50 miles from us and I heard it coming a good 10 seconds before it hit. So far we haven't found any cracks in the house. They say to expect aftershocks, already had a 3.6 one.
