Henry Taylor Kryo tools & gold patina

I just received a Henry Taylor Kryo spindle gouge... the handle is marked "Kryo", but the steel does not have the gold patina that I've seen on other Kryo tools. Is this legit?

Looking at the steel on Kyro 1/2" skew & Henry Taylor M2 Skew, cannot see any difference in color. Tool Handle has all the Kyro information. Both tools have made by HT on the chisel. If the tool has a black ferrule with green dot, it's Kyro tool.

Am sorry paid extra for this tool, when wears out will not buy another.

From the CSUSA website:
Tools are easily recognized by the Kryo logo on the handle and gold patina on the steel.


And from Henry Taylor's website:
The new range is easily identified by the Kryo logo and gold coloured flume on the blade.


So yes, it looks like it should have a gold patina in the gouge's flume, but not the whole gouge...

Let me go look again... black ferrule, green dot. No gold color anywhere on the steel. Maybe I'll get ahold of the Henry Taylor company and check with them. Craft Supplies is the store from which I purchased the gouge. I know them to be a reputable company, but would like to be sure.

I'm just going by what it says on the websites...perhaps your tool missed out on the colourization part...

I just received both a spindle gouge and a skew. Never noticed the add said gold on the steel. Now I am definitely wondering about this. Mine are from CSUSA also.

Pretty sure if you ordered a Kryo gouge from Craft supplies that is what they sent you, unless they made a mistake. Call them with any concerns you have.

JMHO, don't think Henry Taylor Kryo or Diamic Brand tools worth the money. All of my old M2 HSS Henry Taylor tools, much better quality.

Have been looking at both Hamlet & P & N tools for replacements. Found out P&N tools have been sold to another company. If you look at Hamlet tools address in the UK, it's the same as Henry Taylor's. Telephone numbers are different though.

Yeah, I have other M2 Henry Taylor tools, and love them. I figured I'd give the Kryo a try since it was only about $8 more. No word yet from HT.

Here is the reply which I received from Henry taylor:

The colouring of the Kryo tools became very hit and miss – it varied with every batch of steel. Colouring the steel was discovered by accident, almost a freak of nature.

Due to the variation in depth of colour and sometimes patchiness, I decided to stop the process.

I am very confident that you have a cryogenically processed tool. We have identification marks on the blade (which is in the handle – and I do not suggest you remove the handle).
