Help with wood ID?

My son was on a trip to Washington state and bought this wood. He does not know what it is, and I could use some help identifying it. I plan to make a couple of pens and a fly rod reel seat for my grandson using it.

Looks like Myrtle to me.

I agree with David. I just made an expresso tamper from myrtle, and it looks very much like this.

From a Washingtonian that is definitely myrtle wood.

If it stinks when you turn it, it's myrtle! The last myrtle I turned smelled like sweat socks!
