I even knew that one!!!!;):D:D:D As Chris said...SHARP, SHARP, SHARP...you're going to be cutting a lot of potentially loosely packed fibers. CA will be your friend.
 
Palm makes some awesome turnings... I've done pens, bowls and even a peppermill from palm... as everyone has advised.. sharp tools and face mask... this stuff has sawdust that's akin to sand. Matter of fact, you may find some sand, since palm isn't really a wood, but belongs to a family of grasses.
 
The chances of this not being Palm is round about absolute Zero. I have a slim line I made out of black palm. gorgeous pen. It has a nick name "porcupine wood". I didn't have much trouble with it splintering but have heard lots of reports to the contrary.
