Merry Christmas everyone.

I just returned from a Caribbean cruise vacation. While I was on the island of Dominica, a picked up a piece of native wood from a young carver on the dock. It was a piece he had prepared to carve. He said the wood was a native species from the island. He even wrote it on the piece for me.

The problem is that his accent was very strong and I thought he said the wood was called Bordemer. I figured I would have no problem looking more info up when I got home.

Well, I can't find it anywhere. Using the information the young man put on the piece, I have tried every combination I can think of. I am begining to think that the name he used was a local one that is not used anywhere else.

Can anyone help me identify it. I have included a couple of photos. the piece is about 4"X8".

Thanks in advance.
