Hi all, My son earned his whittling chip in cub scouts this year. I told him I'd make him a pocket knife. I opted for a kickback kit. It's my first time doing one of these. I'd previously done a chefs knife. The metal piece that functions as the lock mechanism is kind of rough looking. I want to try and smooth it out and polish it up. Any tips? Should I get it filed down and polished before assembly? If so, how do folks hold a piece that small while working it? Or should I assemble the knife and then sand and polish when it is all together. If it matters, I ordered the bobcat from knife kits.com.
