Help, how to double dye blanks with vacuum

New to the site and can't seem to find an answer to my query. I've seen double dyed blanks for sale and I've done a lot of stabilizing but how does one "double dye" a wood blank? Using Cactus juice and vacuum and would like to try it out on some Buckeye burl wood I have. Thanks, Lee

I double, triple, dye a couple ways depending if it is cross or long grain. Long grain is done by capillary action. Either place the blank standing up or at an angle in the dye to allow the dye to wick up. Cross grain is done with an eye dropper. Cross cut spalted works best for the eye dropper method. The dye won't cross a splat line. No vacuum. Bake it off. I clean up the blank and put it under vacuum to fill areas not stabilized from the previous step using the color of my choice.

Are you using dye mixed with stabilizing solution? OR just an alcohol dye? Water based??

Ed I am using dye in stabilizing solution. The eye dropper method is an "end of the day" activity. I can sit, rest and do mindless activity. It takes quite a while to soak through a blank so I try to do a couple dozen at a time.

That is so cool. Couple of questions. Is that dye mixed with stabilizer and how viscous is that wood you're dyeing. I would assume it's pretty porous.

The dye is mixed with the stabilizer. I buy both from Curtis at Turn Tex. The wood was very porous.
