Hello All,

Its great to have a place where you can share ideas with others that have the same intrest.

I am a Network Engineer for a company that provides network solutions for financial instatutions. I use to do custom woodworking for a living but no one wants to pay for craftsmanship anymore, well there are a few but not as many as there were in the past. My Grandfather (Carl Harper) and I thrived in the custom woodworking for a long time but now we have all the stuff from over seas, the economy and people that lower there prices to make a buck so I had to go back to college to support my family and here I am. My once loved job is now a hobby. I lost my grandfather this year so I am on my own now and it is nice to find a place that I can share my ideas and have others that will share thiers with me as well. I have been in woodworking for over 30 years but only started turning about 2 years ago and I love to make the chips fly. I have done everything from bowls, cups, toys, bottlestoppers to pens and pencils.

Everyone have a great day!

Welcome from Washington. To a lesser extent I know what you mean. I was going to try make a living doing custom furniture but there isn't enough people out there to make a good living at it. When you find one it's great not just for the money but because they appreciate the workmanship that goes into it.

Welcome from Arkansas Dirk, You are right about sharing information, this really is a great site. Happy turning, Ted:smile:

Dirk,

Welcome to IAP!

Lived there for the best years of my life.

After we get our daughter through med school and help her with raising her two sons we still have hopes of returning home.

Have two sons and 5 grandchildren living there. Lucky if we get back once a year. Hopefully early fall this year. Or maybe deer season.

Charlie

Welcome from 30 miles up the road! If you are into turning bowls and the like you should check out the Woodturners of Southwest Missouri. They meet in Springfield the fourth Saturday of each month at the Library Center on south Campbell. If you are interested I can put you in touch with the President of the club.
